Steatite is an alternative to ceramics. This material consists

to about 90 % of soapstone, a very soft mineral. It can be

shaped easily, and a temperature treatment at roughly

1300 °C, including diverse additives, will provide it with spe-

cial properties.

Advantages in comparison to ceramics:

- higher density

- better value concerning bending and compression strength

as well as elasticity

- higher dielectric strength

Other properties:

- non-inflammable

- temperature-resistant, dimensional stability up to 1000 °C

(housing may get in contact with hot objects, but the sur-

rounding temperature should not exceed 350 °C because

otherwise, the scaling temperature of brass inserts will be

reached)

Eine Alternative zu Porzellan ist Steatit. Dieser keramische

Werkstoff besteht zu ca. 90% aus Speckstein, einem sehr

weichen Mineral. Es lässt sich leicht in beliebige Formen

pressen. Seine besondere Fähigkeit bekommt das Steatit

durch eine Temperaturbehandlung bei ca. 1300 °C mit

diversen Zusätzen.

Vorteile gegenüber Porzellan:

- höhere Dichte

- bessere Werte in den Bereichen Biege- und Druckfestigkeit,

höhere Bruchsicherheit

- höhere elektrische Durchschlagfestigkeit

Weitere Eigenschaften:

- nicht brennbar

- temperaturbeständig, formstabil bis ca. 1000 °C

(Isolierkörper darf mit heißen Teilen in Berührung kommen,

die Umgebungstemperatur sollte jedoch nicht höher als

350 °C sein, da sonst die Verzunderungstemperatur der

Messingkörper erreicht werden kann.)
