Timer/Counter 2 with Additional Compare/Capture/Reload
Timer 2 with additional compare/capture/reload features is one of the most powerful
peripheral units of the C508. It can be used for all kinds of digital signal generation and
event capturing like pulse generation, pulse width modulation, pulse width measuring
etc. Timer 2 is designed to support various automotive control applications as well as
industrial applications (frequency generation, digital-to-analog conversion, process
control etc.).
The C508 Timer 2 in combination with the compare/capture/reload registers allows the
following operating modes:
– Compare:
up to 4 PWM output signals with 65535 steps at maximum, and 300 ns
resolution
– Capture:
up to 4 high speed capture inputs with 300 ns resolution
– Reload:
modulation of timer 2 cycle time
The block diagram in Figure 11 shows the general configuration of Timer 2 with the
additional compare/capture/reload registers. The I/O pins which can be used for Timer 2
control are located as multifunctional port functions at Port 5.
