LOW POWER TERMINATION IN 100BASE-TX

In 100BASE-TX, the PHY transmits on one pair and receives

on the other, and the default setting for 100BASE-TX operation

is for normal termination on the receive dimension, which con-

sumes the lowest power. The PHY can be configured for lowest

common-mode impedance on the receive pair by clearing the

B_100_ZPTM_EN_DIMRX bit. There is a trade-off of 12 mW in-

creased power consumption with lowest common-mode impedance

setting. In all cases, the differential impedance is 100 Ω. Use the

lowest common-mode impedance setting for capacitive coupled

applications and other applications where there may be a path for

high common-mode noise to reach the PHY.

REPEATER OR BACK TO BACK MODE

Some applications need to extend cable reach beyond the standard

Ethernet cable lengths. One approach to achieving this is to use

two PHYs configured in repeater or back to back mode. RGMII is

the preferred method to achieve this because there is no overhead

in terms of configuration.

RGMII Back to Back

The ADIN1300 RGMII interface supports back to back configuration

without any modification required. Connect the receive outputs from

one PHY across to the transmit inputs of the other PHY to achieve

this. Configure the RGMII interface with internal delay on just one

side, typically the receive side only for each PHY. The internal delay

can be configured using hardware strapping, or alternatively by

writing over the MDIO interface to Register GE_RGMII_CFG, Bit

GE_RGMII_TX_ID_EN = 0 and Bit GE_RGMII_RX_ID_EN = 1.
